Adaptogens - New Wave Comeback

Adaptogens are plants and extracts from natural botanical sources that are known to be biological, physical or chemical de-stressors for the body are a healthy wave of personal wellness and self care. Now, more than ever, we are ready for skin care products that are adapted for todays diverse environmental conditions and fast paced life. Adaptogens work on a cellular level to fortify skin's ability to regenerate and synthesize at a healthy rate.

Common complaints about the skin can be irritation, discolouration, congestion, breakouts, dryness and premature aging.  Incorporating a product with an ingredient with adaptogen effects can be beneficial to your skin routine.

Adaptogens have been used for centuries as forms of wellness and health in food and nutrition for creating a mode of homeostasis, or standard for optimum health for the body and increasing the body's resistance to pathogens. Discovered in traditional asian medicine and researched heavily in the early 20th century for use in biomedical and military operations to increase the resistance to stressors and environmental pathogens in the endocrine and immune systems.

Some known adaptogens are Korean ginseng, holy basil, milk thistle, ashwaganda, rhodiola rosea, ginseng eleuthero, maca root, aloe vera and rosemary.

Some of the most interesting studies reveal that adaptogens stimulate the protective mechanisms of the cell. On a topical level, this is beneficial to the cellular development of ketatinocytic apoptosis and cell programs and their active response to stressors and pathogens which is directly linked to survival rate of organisms, their neuro endocrine and immune systems making them highly resistant to external stressors independent of the nature of pathologic state.

Skin products with adaptogens take us to a new level of skin stress control available for all ages and skin types. Sensitive, prematurely aging and acne prone skin can benefit from ingredients that have adaptogenic effects such as some common types such as aloe vera, rhodiola, and korean ginseng.

When looking for an anti pollution skin solution, if your skin is prone to break out, sensitive reactions, an adaptogenic topical is your salvation. Carry it with you and be ready for those unpredictable moments you want to have dermal comfort and control and feel at your best.
